Because we arrived on a holiday and the next day was Sunday, many places weren't open. We did find a supermarket a few blocks away and got some more provisions for lunches and breakfasts. The market was surprising; although the entrance was the size of a one-car garage, as most shops are, it had a series of connected rooms that went back a long way -- maybe ten or more. It was fun wandering around to see what was available. For my India peeps, I was pleased to find lichis! In the evening we found a nearby restaurant and had a nice dinner.

This morning (Monday) dawned rainy, but it never came down hard. The streets were wet and there was a bit of mist in the air. At 10:00 we headed for the Vodafone store to get our phones hooked up. It took quite a while, but we are finally all set. On the way back, we went into the main floor of the Mercato Centrale, which was closed on Sunday. We walked through most of the aisles. There were many butchers, cheese vendors, produce stalls, and a variety of prepared foods to take home. The upper level has restaurants for eating in or taking home (which we did on Saturday).
Meat stall, probably not what I'll be buying... |
Beautiful produce stall |
After our simple lunch at home we headed to Piazza del Republicca, where there is an Apple store. Dan needs a repair on his phone and tried to get an appointment online, but couldn't. We found out why; they are short-handed and the next appointment is Friday afternoon. We hope they can replace his broken screen. On the way back we swung by the Duomo and came down a street with swanky shops.
And fortunately, on the way back we found a lovely gelateria only about a block from our apartment. A great way to finish off the afternoon!
