Friday we decided not to attempt to see any sights. I went out for a walk and found a nearby yarn shop (I may need more, as my current projects are moving quickly). I also went through a shop near the Duomo called Eataly. It was much larger than it appeared on the outside. There is a restaurant at the back, but most of the floor space was dedicated to all kinds of Italian foods, packaged and fresh. More expensive than the supermarkets, but very interesting. I suspect they do a lot of tourist business.
So far we are eating well, if not lavishly. We've only been out in restaurants three times in two weeks (it's about time for another visit!). We do our own breakfasts and lunches with fruit, yogurt, granola, sandwiches. The markets are well stocked with the supplies we need. We shop nearly daily just for what is needed.
For dinner we have been doing quite a lot of takeout. A few things from the supermarket (a frozen pizza actually was quite good). But frequently we go over to the Mercato and bring home something to heat up in the oven. There is no microwave, but the oven is convection and works quickly. I've found that things with bread on top don't do well -- it scorches before the rest of the food is heated through.
One night we went to a "spaghetteria" just around the corner. We were the only ones there (we eat far earlier than Italians). The menu had a good variety, but we both ended up with Spaghetti all'Amatriciana, a sauce of tomatoes, bacon and onion.
