Saturday morning we arrived at Sa Dec and were taken ashore on a local boat. We walked through the local market — wholesale, I think, as there were huge quantities of everything.

We visited a colonial home where the author Marguerite Duras’s Chinese lover lived She is a well-known French author born in Saigon. The movie “The Lover” is based on her book.

We had some time to wait for the French group to return, and I was happy to find a seat outside the house. It also had a “Happy Room” where we could use the facilities.
In the afternoon I begged off and relaxed on the boat. The others visited a brick and pottery factory, a fruit tree nursery and saw the making of various sweets and rice paper.
