Flowers

This weekend is the Chiang Mai Flower Festival. The parade was on Saturday, with many remarkable floats and lots of marching groups of different ethnicities, bands, and others. This year I didn’t go, as the temperature has shot up to over 90°F and I can barely be out at midday. But I have some flower pictures anyway!

The first four photos were taken on my way to the market in front of a shop that is also a home (probably the upper levels).

While I was there, a man who lives there came out with his morning cup of coffee. He seemed pleased that I enjoyed his plants.

These sunflowers showed up in honor of the festival. They are in an area by the city wall in front of an enormous banyan tree.

One night last week we went to a new-to-us restaurant, a sports bar. One wall had this painted wooden hanging — it had 6 or 8 panels, but I could just get four in a closeup. We wondered about it — it is definitely Indian, not Thai.

One of my favorite dishes here is chicken cashew with rice. I had one of the best ever at the bar. It had lots of delicious vegetables and plenty of cashews along with the small pieces of chicken.

I’m going on a small trip with my friend Barbara this week. Udon Thani is a small city near the Laotian border. I should have lots of interesting things to post soon!
