Thursday evening we decided to go to the restaurant named Faces, which is just behind the Chiang Mai Gate Market. We ate there several years ago but last year it was closed up. They have reopened a part of their location while renovations are ongoing in the part we went to before. It is very nice, but much more expensive than our usual places, so it will be a once-in-a-while treat. The servers were very attentive.
Walking along the road in front of the market is very different in the evening than in the morning, my usual time in the area. Instead of a row of fruit and vegetable vendors, there is a huge variety of takeout food available.

On our walk home, Dan was pleased to see this woman. She makes a spicy cucumber salad that he loves. He had come by here several times looking for her, but hadn't found her. We watched her chop up cucumbers with lots of other things, using a huge mortar and pestle (like the one in the background here). When she saw me standing there, she went behind and pulled out a stool for me to sit on. So kind!
